So, that being said, do Buddhists go to war??

hi fleur, but the part that really, well, frankly creeped me out for lack of a better term, is that he left his wife and child, then starved himself nearly to death before he realized that this wasn't the way to go, and he lived as a homeless person, begging food as he went on his path to enlightenment.
that's a rather simplified version of events.

through research over the years, it seems to me that aliens do exist, and even it some of the alien abductions are "demonic" or "ginn activity" as many claim, there are still many tales of humanoid beings from other planets that have been seen on earth.
this is something i've struggle with for years, because jw and mainstream christians alike write it all off as demonic etc.
anyone have thoughts on reconciling belief in god with aliens, even humans on other planets?
Yeah, but HOW?? In fact...
Time travel to the past might be possible, but time travel to the future is less likely because it doesn't exist yet.
Then, it depends on where the other life would be coming from. If it's coming from one direction of the earth's gravity pull, for instance from a point being older, they would be more likely to have the technology as they are an older civilization...
If however it's coming from the direction that is newer it is less likely they have the technology.
On the other hand, if coming from a creation point of view, God could have created a life that is far more advanced then we from either direction.
Atlantis is my favorite theory. Come to think of it maybe I should find a Build Atlantis game rather then Build Egypt...
i feel like screaming right about now...........the dickhead who takes our bookstudy group just came over and said "...i wonder how many brothers and sisters died in the tsunami disater.
" while that's a natural concern, his next comment blew me away "....it figures that the media hasn't bothered mentioning jehovah's witnesses helping out in this disaster!
" i looked at him stunned for a minute and said "and why on earth would they mention jehovah's witnesses?
WOOHOOO to Mary!!!
The first question that gets asked when tragedy strikes is, "How are the brothers and sisters?" When they're all accounted for, they breathe a sigh of relief. As if divinely Jehovah saved them. When 9/11 happened, same thing. I heard sooooooooooooooo many people say, to the point where I got openly defiant, "Jehovah saved so many of our brothers and sisters." UGH.
So is the kind of God I'm supposed to believe in?
"These look worthy of saving, I can use them for something. But this guy, yeah, his 2 year old daughter doesn't need him."
At one point I looked my mother in the eye and said, "So, what now we believe Jehovah saves some and not others as if some are worthy of living and others aren't? That's a form of predestination. Jehovah has destined for some to live and others to die." She shut up.
Mary, girl, you rock. So many people are so bloody ignorant and stupid and they say mean and dumb and f**cked up statements. Good for you. It is unf... trying not to get too vulgar..... It is unbelievable that people say things like that.
In general, Witnesses help Witnesses. Wait... scratch that... strong witnesses help strong witnesses.... wait scratch that strong witnesses help strong witnesses that they like. When we got snowbombed last week, my husband was working all day, my neighbor took care of my walk and driveway. I am making them some belated Christmas cookies. Weak witnesses are left to whither and die if they ain't lucky enough to have made some friends. OH or if you're NEW. Then there's the love bomb....
Sorry... just grouchy today

Gaia are they available on video? The reason why I asked about belief in ghosts, was the thing is, if one can believe in ghosts or spirits (or whatever) point being a living person that is unseen, then that is a start for believing in et. Hope Ididn't creep anyone out.

I have been reading a little bit about Buddhism and it is really intriguing. One of the things I noticed was that Buddha had not really taught anything specific about God. So, that being said, what is it that most Buddhists believe about death and the afterlife? I will definitely check out the book you suggested. I was just curious. Oh, and aren't Buddhists pacifists?

The question is, what are we willing to consider as life? Is a gnat a life form? There is a book that has this plot that is basically, another planet is attacking earth, the planet is made up of these horrible super-bugs. It was turned into a movie. A terrible, terrible movie with acting as a bad as a soap opera. But the point was made. If I'm not mistaken they did discover that there had been life on Mars. Not the kind of life that we would think of as being important, nevertheless life was there at some time. (maybe it was another planet)
There are so many things in this world that we cannot explain. I think it is so much easier to pass it off as an urban legend or myth. It takes an awesome amount of humility as a human race to admit that there is a whole other world that we simply don't or cannot understand. Be it a parallel world, spiritual beings, ghosts and demons. Atlantis. Esp, etc. Whether it is or was God created, evoluted from smaller forms...
I prefer to believe in God. I think there is proof. But that which I find to be proof, may be silly and disproveable to someone else.
Do you guys believe in Ghosts?

Not long ago I was reading about the probability of other life forms. The problem actually lies with the laws of science. The thing is, the time frame of a life form visiting our planet is slim only because the time it would take for 1 ?ufo? to reach our planet from another galaxy would be hundreds of years. Counting the concept of wormholes is pointless since their existence cannot be proven. That being said I do believe that just about anything is possible, because, hey ya never know. And since we have no actual millenium falcons available that have actually been through the universe with a Wookie to examine, we have to wait and see. Pictures of little green men and beings with almond shaped eyes don?t count as proof. However, if there is anything I learned from my experience with the jw, is this : what aren?t they telling me??
as you know the earthquake has killed an estimated 10,000 people today in asia.
there are over 1,000,000 people now homeless as a result.. if you can help by donating to charitable organisations such as the red cross and oxfam, please do.
see if you can donate time to man helplines or help in any other practical way.
Thank you sirona. I will give the links a try.

I am not unwilling to try this distance healing thing... Reiki(?) but in a nutshell what is it? Am I going to be fairly freaked out going to this site?? Keep in mind, the northern states are going through freezing temps and I know where I live the homeless shelters are maxed out. There are entire families that are completely homeless. For those of you who are nervous about orgs, check out local churches or even some online sites that have missionaries in these countries. (dubs aren't the only ones that send out missionaries) They might be able to help you out further. I have heard of churches getting together and sending, not only money, but blankets, toothbrushes, etc. If I see any specifics, I'll let ya know.
with his wife to say that it's been 3 months since my daughter's wedding and in october he got deleted for going to it even though the presiding overseer told him it was a "conscience matter.
period.
".....the circuit overseer saw it differently and removed my friend as an elder amd my mom as a regular pioneer because of a letter sent only to circuit overseers in 1999!!!!
I know someone this happened to about 5 or 6 years ago. An elder/po was deleted for attending a wedding of an in law who was (is?) a witness and married a non witness. Funny thing was though, he had attended a wedding of a jw who married a nonjw who was more closely connected by marriage only 1- 2 years prior to this and nothing happened. So, he thought it was okay. On top of that elders in 2 or 3 different congregations in different circuits had different things to say on the matter. So, the co?s for the respecting cong.s got involved and I am almost positive that more elders were deleted. Secret societies are sure scary, aren?t they?
